Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET Framework 4.0 mark the next generation of developer tools from Microsoft. Designed to address the latest needs of developers, Visual Studio and the .NET Framework deliver key innovations in the following pillars:

  • Democratizing Application Lifecycle Management
Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) crosses many roles within an organization and traditionally not every one of the roles has been an equal player in the process. Visual Studio Team System 2010 continues to build the platform for functional equality and shared commitment across an organization’s ALM process.
  • Enabling emerging trends
Every year the industry develops new technologies and new trends. With Visual Studio 2010, Microsoft delivers tooling and framework support for the latest innovations in application architecture, development and deployment.

Last Friday I went to a friend’s place to take a look of their computer because they think it have viruses on it.  Their computer wasn’t as bad as I thought……but then again the computer was quite fast; so having a few viruses / Trojans running at the background probably won’t make much difference 😉  I ran a few virus / Trojan scanners on the computer and found a handful of spywares plus a Trojan! The ability for web browsers to automatically detect proxy settings is really useful when you have to switch between multiple networks all the time.  With Internet Explorer, proxy settings are being detected in both XP and Vista, but things aren’t going so well with Firefox!  If you are using Vista and Firefox happens to be your default browser, you have to manually configure the proxy settings for it to work on our student network…which is NOT convenient at all!  (more…)

Looks like Microsoft is giving us “an early present” by releasing the SP1 for Office 2007 before XMAS 😀 The first service pack for Office 2007 is suppose to be out on the 11th of December…but the link doesn’t seem to be working tonight 😦

Check out this link: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx

At the time of this writing, the link “Download and install Service Pack 1 for Office 2007won’t lead you to the right place, all you will get is: “We’re sorry, the page you requested could not be found“. Looks like Santa forgot to put the present on the web page 😉

Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow morning (12th of Dec), the link will be working 🙂

You can also checkout: Visio 2007 Service Pack 1 and Project 2007 Service Pack 1

But the end result is the same (page not found) at the moment 😦

Lately I’ve been busy learning Office 2007. So far I’ve finished Excel and I am now half way through Word 2007. Currently I am planning to finish PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook before Christmas.

I am learning these things for two reasons: 1st: we can’t get away from Microsoft Office…its everywhere! One way or the other, we have to use one / more Microsoft Office programs for our work; 2nd: I am offering some computer trainings in Oamaru, so it would be great if I know programs like Excel and Outlook because they are very popular in the business world; also…knowing a trick or two in these programs can certainly save you time later on.

I have to say this is the first time I’ve ever done any planning for my trips 😉 I’ve always thought it will take a long time to plan for a trip, and its impossible to do it within a day or two, but this time I’ve proven that planning could be a lot easier with the help of technologies like the online maps and of course, emails and websites 😀

Quicksilver is one of my favorite apps on the Mac platform, but what about Windows? Is there anything we could use on Windows that acts more or less the same as Quicksilver on the Macs? Well, it turns out that there are quite a few! I personally prefer Launchy, which is an open source keystroke launcher for Windows 🙂

If your friends are still not sure whether they should get Vista or not, then you can tell them to use Vista as a trial and experience this great OS themselves. But the initial trial period is only 30 days, and for some, that’s not enough, so what can we do? Reinstall every 30 days until we’ve decided to get it? That’s probably not the best option unless you’ve got lots to spare time to kill. Here is a simple tutorial to show you how to extend Vista’s trial period to 120 days, which is probably more than enough for most of us 😉
