For those who have used PCs @ most of their time…its quite hard to ask them to try something different, because they’ve got a whole set of software that they “feel comfortable in“. One of the questions that people ask when they saw a Mac is that:
Can I use my day to day software on the Macs?.
Well, to be honest, at most of the time, the answer is NO unless you are using a cross-platform software like Maya / Blender. Although you can’t use the same software on the Macs, there are numerous software out there that can perform the same task. So if you are using Windows at the moment and you want to give Mac a try, you can checkout the software below and see what are the possibilities on the Mac platform 😀
Instant Message Software:
Microsoft Messenger, aMSN, iChat(its a built-in software, it comes with the system, it can handle Gtalk as well as others), Adium (it can handle almost anything! E.g. Gtalk, MSN, QQ (Chinese IM software, 腾讯QQ), Yahoo, AOL, and so on…)
Disc Burning Software
Mac OS X have built in disc burning capabilities, the Disk Utility (another built-in software) can burning discs as well as making backups of your software CD/DVDs. If you want to have a disc burning software like Nero, then you should check out Roxio Toast 8 Titanium.
Productivity Tool (Office Suite)
The first thing that comes to most people’s mind is Microsoft Office! And guess what? There are Microsoft Office on the Macs too. The latest version is called Office for Mac 2004, the 2008 version is still in beta, but it would be out very soon…
3D graphics software is quite “cross-platform” these days, things like Maya and Blender both (are FREE and also) have Windows, Mac and Linux version 😀 Which is a good thing so people can work on any one platform that they feel comfortable with. But even though these two software are cross-platform, there might be some differences between them (E.g. keyboard shortcut keys). VectorWorks 2008 is another popular CAD tool on the Macs 🙂
to be continued……
p.s. The software I mentioned above are just examples of numerous software you can find on the Mac platform.
