This morning when I was working in the ITS…I had one girl coming in and asked me to get her laptop on the wireless network.
Sure I answered. But what I didn’t expect was that her computer was quite slow. She waited for nearly an hour! The laptop’s CPU was fine…but it only got 256MB of RAM…and what’s more…she is running a lot of programs at the background. I am not blaming her for the state of her laptop…but should stores tell people they should upgrade their RAM if they are buying a low end model? Some of the low end models now comes with Vista…but only 512MB of RAM. Shouldn’t you offer them a choice between XP and Vista? 512MB of RAM running Vista like 256MB (of RAM) running XP. Its really sad to see some laptops with very fast CPUs but only got 512 😦
Also…I learnt that its very important to keep people “entertained”…so they won’t feel bored and start to panic. So I need to talk to them all the time…asking about their studies…they weekends…their interest…all kinds of things I can think of @ that time. Having a magazine on the desk will also help too 😉
